Saw the movie Shutter Island last night and I just want the world to know that it’s a complete and total mindfuck! Fantastic movie. I was wide-eyed for the last 20 minutes of the film. It’s a breath of fresh air kase bihira na lang ang mga movies na pinapalabas sa sine na talagang sasabihin mong maganda at hindi lang “popcorn” movie.
Pero kahit masasabi ko na magaling na artista si Leo Di Caprio, hindi talaga ko fan ng kanyang “kunot noo” style of acting. We’re seeing him play the same role over and over again. Lagi na lang siyang yung intense and brooding person na ang constant facial expression ay sumimangot at magkunot ng noo. His character in this movie is no different than the one he played in The Departed. Maraming nagkukumpara sa kanya kay Robert De Niro. Siguro dahil na rin parehas silang muse ni Martin Scorcese. Pero tingin ko tama rin yung comparison na yun dahil with Robert De Niro, you know exactly what you’re gonna get. Which is not exactly a good thing. I’m a big De Niro fan, I truly am, but I think he’s been playing the same character for his last 20 or so films. Lagi na lang siyang intense and brooding tulad ni Di Caprio.
Anyway, if you are so inclined, do watch the movie. I highly recommend it. (Not that my recommendation really means anything)
